WHAT WE DO
CINEMANAS embraces cinema and sisterhood, connecting communities and cultures one frame at a time.
We create film and television that redresses inequities through themes of identity, community, and collective dreaming.
WHO WE ARE
Founded by sister writing/directing duo Marlee & Karlee Rodrigues. After early careers as child actors, the Rodrigues Sisters found themselves wanting to create more three-dimensional characters that accurately represent the complexity of women’s experiences.
WHY WE DO IT
The name CINEMANAS blends “Cinema” with “Manas”, a Portuguese slang term meaning “sisters”. Grounded in our own experiences of sisterhood, we invite audiences to explore relationships on screen in ways that foster compassion within an inclusive global community.
